₹ 45 crore demonetised currency seized in Chennai
The Chennai police have seized over ₹ 45 crore in demonetised currency from a person who claimed to be an advocate and businessman.
The ₹1,000 and ₹ 500 notes were stacked in carton boxes and kept inside a shop-cum-residence in Zakaria Colony, Second street, Kodambakkam.
Following a tip-off, a police team headed by an Assistant Commissioner of Police searched the premises of Dhandapani (50), who also owns a shop selling uniforms to schools, police, and military personnel.
Dhandapani was brought to the Kodambakkam police station for questioning.
He claimed that another person had given him the money for safe custody.
Income Tax and Enforcement Directorate officials were informed about the seizure.
