1st week collection: Aamir’s Dangal film crosses Rs 300-crore mark worldwide
After a week since its release on December 23, Dangal has finally crossed the Rs 300-crore mark at the box office, taking into account both domestic earnings and money made from the international market.
Dangal, directed by Nitesh Tiwari, is based on the struggle of Haryanvi wrestler Mahavir Singh Phogat who trained his daughters Geeta Phogat and Babita Kumari to become world-class wrestlers.
Aamir’s performance as Mahavir Singh Phogat has been widely praised. The Phogat girls, Suhani Bhatnagar and Sanya Malhotra as Babita and Zaira Wasim and Fatima Sana Shaikh as Geeta, have also won the audiences’ hearts with their acting.
A good pre-marketing buzz followed by generous word of mouth has propelled Dangal into become one of India’s all-time blockbusters.
So far, up until Thursday, Dangal has grossed Rs 300 crore worldwide, with Rs 197 crore coming in from India and another Rs 103 crore coming from overseas collections.
