Mumbai local train derails on western suburban rail line, traffic disrupted

Mumbai: Seven coaches of a local train from Andheri to Churchgate in Mumbai derailed on Tuesday morning between Vile Parle and Andheri station.

Traffic on Mumbai’s western suburban rail line was disrupted after the train derailed.

No casualty has been reported, Chief Public Relations Officer (CPRO), Western Railway, Sharat Chandrayan said.

The train coming from Borivili to Churchgate derailed at around 11am between Andheri and Vile Parle stations, the second such incident involving local trains in as many days.

A team of engineers and rescue officials have rushed to the spot to restore the services, the CPRO said.

An inquiry would be conducted to ascertain the cause of the derailment, he added.

A local train coming from Bandra had last evening derailed on the Harbour Line of Central Railway while entering the platform at Chhattrapati Shivaji Terminus (CST), causing inconvenience to commuters during the peak hours.

Suburban harbour line services, both up and down, were on Monday suspended between CST and Wadala Road Station owing to the mishap.

Earlier Western Railways had tweeted, “Some coaches of the VR-CCG Fast local derailed between Andheri and Vile Parle at 11 hrs. No injury reported yet. Details will be updated.”
