Jayalalithaa announces Amma Mobile scheme for women self-help groups
Chennai: Chief minister J Jayalalithaa on Monday announced an Amma Mobile scheme for the benefit of 20,000 trainers at self-help groups in Tamil Nadu.
Making a suo motu announcement in the assembly, the chief minister said the scheme would be introduced in the current fiscal. It will incur an expenditure of Rs 15 crore to the state exchequer.
The groups manage several records pertaining to conducting meetings, payment, savings and details of loans among themselves. “A special mobile application will be designed to ensure registration of details and to monitor the functioning of each group,” Jayalalithaa said.
The state has 6.08 lakh self-help groups (SHGs), with a membership of 92 lakh women. Federations are also formed at the village level and each one comprises 25 groups.
Trainers are available for each SHG to monitor the progress of the members.
