Uber plans to open new centre in Bengaluru:: Report
Uber is looking to expand operations in India by opening a new centre in Bengaluru and expanding its centre in Hyderabad.
The decision to set up a new centre in Bengaluru is not final yet, but the city is a likely candidate, reports The Economic Times. The report adds that the Bengaluru centre will develop “custom solutions for India and the adjoining markets.”
Uber’s Hyderabad centre is already quite a large one and is Uber’s largest centre outside the US. This centre currently provides support services to riders and drivers. The Bengaluru hub will apparently be positioned as Uber’s engineering centre here. The Hyderabad centre is also looking for engineering talent, however.
Speaking to a spokesperson from Uber, ET has learned that Uber sees “tremendous potential” for ridesharing in India and that it is to committed to expansion in the country.
It was in July last year that Uber had announced its intention of investing $1 billion in India, an investment that’s on par with Uber’s investments in China, though Uber did sell off its China operations to Didi Chuxing last year.
At the time, the company was “extremely bullish” and reportedly saw 40 percent monthly growth in the country.
