Tamil Nadu to get exemption from NEET for 2017
The Centre is willing to grant exemption from NEET (National Eligibility cum Entrance Test) for one year to Tamil Nadu in terms of government college medical admissions to help rural students, Union Minister Nirmala Sitharaman has said.
Speaking at the sidelines of an event on Sunday, she said the State needed to pass an Ordinance seeking exemption for one year, which should specify that the exemption was being provided to help rural students to get admission in government colleges.
“As for the private colleges and deemed universities are concerned, Tamil Nadu is already admitting students as per NEET. The problem comes only in terms of government college admissions and also in terms of seats surrendered by private colleges to government colleges. There is difficulty in rural students getting admissions. That is our understanding based on the interaction with the State,” Ms. Sitharaman said.
