Chittoor Mayor Shot Dead by Attackers in Burqa, Husband Injured

Chittoor Mayor Katari Anuradha was attacked with knives and then shot dead inside her office today by a group of five men who came disguised in burqas.

Her husband, Telugu Desam Party leader Katari Mohan, was also injured in the attack. He has been admitted to a hospital in the city and is in critical condition.

According to reports, the two were inside the Mayor’s chamber at the Chittoor Municipal Corporation when the men in burqas barged in and attacked them with knives and daggers and then shot at the Mayor.

Sources in the police say they believe it could be a case of old rivalry.
