Stalin against linking Aadhaar with LPG subsidy
DMK treasurer M.K. Stalin on Thursday strongly condemned the Oil Ministry’s decision not to provide LPG subsidy to consumers without Aadhaar cards.
In a statement, he said the news that the Centre would stop subsidy to consumers failing to provide Aadhaar details by September was shocking. Already, consumers were paying the market price and the subsidy was being remitted to their bank accounts.
The unilateral decision of the Ministry to stop LPG subsidy or hike petrol and diesel prices, which has tacit acceptance of the Centre are causing problems for the people.
The Supreme Court had said that Aadhaar card was not mandatory. In this context, the Ministry’s insistence on Aadhaar for LPG subsidy was anti-people and in violation of SC orders, Mr. Stalin said.
