10 killed in Munich; police give the all-clear, say suspect killed himself
An 18-year-old German-Iranian opened fire in a crowded Munich shopping mall and nearby McDonald’s on Friday night, killing ten people and injuring 16 before killing himself, the chief of police in the Bavarian capital Hubertus Andrae told a news conference early on Saturday.
He said the suspect was a dual citizen from Munich and his motive was still “fully unclear.” It was too early to label the attack an act of terrorism; earlier, the police said they had no indication of Islamic extremism.
“The question of terrorism or a rampage is tied to motive, and we don’t know the motive,” Mr. Andrae said.
