In a few months, new color combination and new design Rs 1000 notes will be released

The Rs 1000 note has not been discontinued. It will return with enhanced security features and a different colour in a few months, the government said today.

In a press conference also addressed by Finance Minister Arun Jaitley in New Delhi, Economic Affairs Secretary Shaktikanta Das said, “In a few months, new color combination and new design Rs 1000 notes will be released.”

“Let me make it clear. The legal tender status of existing Rs 100, 50 and other denomination notes will continue to be legal tender,” he added.
