Amit Mishra out on bail in assault case

Amit Mishra, India leg-spinner, was arrested in Bengaluru after investigation by Police and was soon granted bail as well. The case pertains to an alleged assault by Mishra on a woman in his hotel room in September. Mishra was a part of the Indian team that had a conditioning camp in Bengaluru ahead of the India-South Africa series.

“Team India cricketer Amit Mishra arrested by Bengaluru police in connection with assault case,” DCP Sandeep Patil said.

Mishra was booked under section 328 of IPC for causing hurt and Section 354 of IPC for assault to woman with intent to outrage her modesty. He appeared before the Police after the ODI series against South Africa that concluded in Mumbai on 25th October. He is also a part of the Test squad. The first Test begins in Mohali on November 5.

Rajeev Shukla, prominent member of BCCI and IPL chairman, said that the board would look into details of the case before taking any action against the leg-spinner.

“I can say that BCCI has taken note of the matter. We are trying to find out the details of the case. The moment we get details, we will look into it. Police is doing their job. We will find out whether the person (Mishra) concerned is responsible for the crime or not. When we get the exact details, then only a decision will be made,” Shukla told reporters in New Delhi.

“Unless BCCI takes a decision, selectors can pick him. The question (of eligibility) arises only when BCCI takes a decision,” he said.
