BEL to come up with unit at Nimmaluru
It is official now. Bharat Electronics Limited (BEL) has selected above 50 acres of land belonging to the Endowments Department at Nimmaluru on the national highway for its proposed expansion project.
The proposal to finalise the site for the expansion of the BEL’s unit in Machilipatnam has been pending from late 2000s. Of late, the proposal by the BEL authorities was also accepted by the State government this week.
A team of higher officials from the BEL, Machilipatnam and Joint Collector G. Chandrudu recently inspected the site at Nimmaluru. “We have inspected the site of above 50 acres under the Endowments Department. The value of the land is being finalised.
The land will be handed over to the BEL after it pays the cost of the land,” Mr. Chandrudu told The Hindu .
He added that it was a preliminary inspection of the site. The officials and the BEL authorities on Monday also interacted with the locals, explaining them the importance of having the defence unit in their location.
Speaking to The Hindu , locals at Nimmaluru said that the officials have appealed them not to worry about the project as it would bring some development to their area .
