Case against Simbu, Anirudh for composing ‘obscene’ song

Race Course Police in Coimbatore have registered a case against actor Simbu and music director Anirudh on Saturday based on a complaint filed by the All India Democratic Women’s Association (AIDWA) with the Commissioner of Police seeking action against them for composing a song which denigrates women.

Comments criticising Simbu and Anirudh were also posted online.

AIDWA members also tore up pictures of the duo on the premises of the Commissioner’s office.

“We were shocked to hear the song,” the association’s district secretary A. Radhika said.

The derogatory words were used throughout the song, which went viral on the social media.

She expressed apprehension that the song would send a wrong message to young people.

“Crimes against women are on the rise and such a song adds fuel to the fire,” she added.

“We asked the police to book the singer and the music director under the relevant sections,” she said.

The cases were filed under sections 4 read with 6 of Indecent Representation of Women Act and 509 (word, gesture or act intended to insult modesty of a woman) of the Indian Penal Code and 67 (punishment for publishing or obscene material in electronic form) of the Information Technology Act.
