Facebook to roll out live 360-degree videos
Facebook will soon allow its users to live stream 360-degree videos directly to News feed. The feature is rolling out from December 13, starting with a video from National Geographic. Next year, the feature will be available for all Pages and accounts.
To explain the feature in a better way, Facebook has joined hands with National Geographic and will broadcast the live 360 video of 7 scientists who have been kept in isolation for 80 days as part of a research work at the Mars Desert Research Station in Utah. The broadcast will start from December 13 at 12pm.
Facebook already supports live video streaming. The company last year started Facebook Live- a feature that allows user to broadcast live videos in the news feed. Later in September, it began rolling out 360 videos for its users.
The company worked with Oculus to build the feature. Zuckerberg last year had said that Facebook is working on a solution for a more immersive video experience with the use of Oculus technology. “You will be able to put on a headset and go anywhere in the world, places you can’t go,” Zuckerberg had said on virtual reality and Oculus Rift tech that his company had acquired.
