‘Ferrari Ki Sawaari’ director arrested for domestic abuse
Filmmaker Rajesh Mapuskar, who was an assistant on the Munnabhai series and 3 Idiots, making his directorial debut with Ferrari Ki Sawaari, was arrested on Tuesday at 11 pm.
He has been in the custody of the Dindoshi police, following a complaint from his wife, Nisha. She has accused him of forgery under Indian Penal Code Act 465, 468 and 471 and domestic violence under IPC Act 498 A. Senior police inspector, Avinash Sawant of the Dindoshi Police Station told Mirror, “Rajesh Mapuskar has been arrested, produced before the court and remanded into judicial custody.”
Meanwhile, Nisha’s 5-BHK apartment in Florencia Amritvan, Goregaon, where she lives with her two sons, Utsav (17) and Zeal (9), is in a dilapidated state. She claims that she has no money for maintenance and Rajesh has not paid society bills for several months. “My husband has rented a plush flat in Oberoi Woods, in the vicinity, and has been paying around Rs 65,000 per month for maintenance,” informs Nisha.
She was forcibly admitted to Masina Hospital in 2010 for three months after her husband claimed that she was suicidal and mentally unstable. She states that her family was not informed about the matter. “While I was sedated, Rajesh was in an extramarital affair with Maheep Dhillon, the wife of Anil Naidu, President, Lintas Productions. Maheep had assisted him on Ferrari Ki Sawaari. He forged my signature and got me admitted into Masina. I was given 15 shocks though 12 is the maximum without my consent under the supervision of Dr.Machiswala, who broke doctor-patient confidentiality agreements by discussing my condition with the media claiming that I was mentally unstable. Do I sound unstable!” asks 49-year old Nisha.
When contacted, Dr. Y Machiswala, Head Psychiatrist at Masina Hospital, said that the last time he had spoken to Mirror (August 27, 2014), Nisha had sent him a legal notice and that he would not like to comment on the matter this time. However, he did point out, “Nisha’s family was actively involved in her treatment, as well.”
Nisha, who received the documents for the annulment of her 17-year marriage, insists that she is not only fighting the divorce and her right to alimony but also for the custody for her children, whose annual tuition of Rs 10 lakh is being paid by Rajesh.
“He tried to forcibly take custody of my children, but they refused to meet him because they are aware that he is in an extra-marital affair. They do not want to live with him and another woman,” she says.
Nisha, who has not met Rajesh in the last two months, and has barely received Rs 5,000 towards monthly expenses of late, says she was a high-society Breach Candy girl who left the luxurious life and her family home to live with Rajesh who was then working in Dilip Ghosh’s ad agency. He later went on to assist filmmakers, Vidhu Vinod Chopra and Rajkumar Hirani.
“I married him and moved with him into a chawl because I was in love with him. We were happy living off his modest income. I never disturbed him on the sets of any of his films. My kids and I have been living off the gold I got when I was married, which is sold off now. This should never happen to any woman,” Nisha asserts.
