Govt. plans to build 200 bridges in Karnataka to ease traffic flow

The State government will construct 200 bridges at a cost of Rs 1,000 crore, with assistance from the Housing and Urban Development Corporation, in the State, Public Works Minister H.C. Mahadevappa has said.

Speaking after launching various development works worth Rs. 79 crore in Davangere taluk, including construction of an overbridge here on Saturday, he said the bridge, a long-pending demand, would play a crucial role in smooth movement of vehicles.

“There is no dearth of funds or any other construction materials, including sand, in the State and all on-going works would be completed in the stipulated time,” he added.

In the first and the second phases of the development of the national highway, 5,000 km of road has been covered, and in the third phase, another 11,000 km would be covered. The proposal is already with the State cabinet and work would begin once the cabinet gives the approval.

The district in-charge Minister Shamnur Shivshankrappa and MLA S.S. Mallikarjun have completed two rounds of discussions with regard to development of old Pune-Bengaluru Road in the city and a total of Rs. 33 crore has been released for the purpose. There are also plans to release another Rs. 5 crore for the work after getting Cabinet approval, he added.

Answering to a question on expansion or reshuffling of the State Cabinet, the Minister informed that the final decision in this regard would be taken by the Chief Minister Siddaramaiah and party high command, he added.
