Grand welcome to PV Sindhu and Gopi Chand
Silver medalist in women’s’ badminton in Rio Olympics P.V.Sindhu and her coach Pullela Gopichand were accorded a grand welcome at Rajiv Gandhi International Airport here.
She was received by her father P.V.Ramana and mother Vijaya along with Telangana Minister for Sports Talasani Srinivasa Yadav, Deputy Chief Minister Md.Ali, Home Minister Nayani Narasimha Rao, former MP V.Hanumantha Rao, GHMC Mayor Bonthu Rammohan, AP Home Minister Nimmakayala Chinna Rajappa, AP Irrigation Minister Devineni Uma Maheswara Rao, MP Kesineni Nani, GHMC Commissioner Janardhana Reddy along with other officials and non-officials , sports personalities.
Sindhu and Gopichand were taken on a specially decorated double decker bus brought from Mumbai. Everything in and around the route and the bus was checked with dog squads and metal detectors even in the last minute. Sportspersons from Gopi Chand Academy too welcomed her.
Sindhu is being taken to Gachhibowli stadium where she and her coach will be felicitated at a meeting.
Telangana Chief Minister K.Chandrasekhara Rao on Saturday announced a cash reward of Rs.5 crore to Sindhu along with 1,000 sq.yards of land and a government job. Chandrasekhara Rao also announced a cash reward of Rs.1 crore to Sindhu’s personal coach P.Gopichand.
And also Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Nara Chandrababu Naidu has announced a cash reward of Rs.3 crore and 1,000 sq.yards of house site in Amaravati and also a Group I officer post in the State Government, if she chooses. Chandrababu also announced a cash prize of Rs.50 lakh to her personal coach Gopichand.
