IIT-Kanpur boy bags Rs 1.5 crore job offer from Microsoft

A Delhi-born boy from IIT-Kanpur has been offered a whopping package of Rs 1.5 crore form Microsoft.  According to a report in TOI, the student will be given $136000 (Rs 94 lakh) as basic pay along  with  $70,000 as expenditure for medical, visa charges, stock ownership options. The total package rounds to almost Rs 1.5 crore.

The IITian has been offered a position at Microsoft’s headquarters in Redmond and reportedly will be working on software designing,  implementation and fixing the bugs. Earlier this week, Samsung offered  Rs 78 lakh package to 10 IIT students on day 1 of placement drive.  The company picked five students from IIT-Bombay and the other five were from IIT-Delhi and IIT-Kanpur.  Uber also doled out Rs 75 lakh as the base salary at IIT-Madras during its graveyard slot.

Last year, four IIT-Kanpur students bagged a salary package of Rs 1.5 crore from Oracle.  The students were from computer science department. Similarly an IIT-Patna student was also offered a handsome salary package of Rs 1.8 crore from Google in 2014. It was the highest salary ever offered at IIT-Patna.

Reportedly, nearly 200 companies are expected to visit IIT-Kanpur campus this year for placements. Last year, almost 280 companies  had visited the campus and the highest package offered was of Rs 93 lakh.

This year IIT Bombay saw the participation of 10 companies during the first slot between 8am to went 5:30 pm. Out of 300 students who appeared for the placement, only 20  got selected. Last year over 60 students were placed during the first slot. In the second slot there were 11 companies. This is the first time that Uber is visit the IIT-B campus.

At IIT- Kharagpur, almost 90 students were placed at the end of two sessions on day one. Nearly 25 companies had come to the college. While IIT Kharagpur saw a decline in number of companies, IIT Guwahati witnessed an increase in the number of companies on day one.
