Madras HC to hear tomorrow plea challenging floor test
The Madras High Court has agreed to hear on Tuesday a petition challenging the trust vote won by the Edappadi K. Palaniswami government of Tamil Nadu.
On Saturday, Speaker Dhanapal declared that the AIADMK government had won the Motion of Confidence with 122 votes polled in favour, after the DMK members were evicted and the Congress and IUML MLAs walked out. Rebel AIADMK MLAs supporting former Chief Minister O. Panneerselvam voted against the motion.
The Speaker had rejected the Opposition parties’ demand of voting through secret ballot. Subsequently, violence erupted in the House and the DMK members were forciblly evicted frim the House by Assembly Marshals.
The DMK had moved the court challenging the trust vote.
