Maharashtra CM’s wife debuts as singer in Munde biopic

Amruta Fadnavis, wife of Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, will debut as a playback singer in a biopic, Sangharshyatra, about the late Gopinath Munde, BJP leader.

Ms. Fadnavis, an associate vice-president with Axis Bank, recorded the title track of the film two days ago.

Munde was killed in a car accident days after taking charge as Union Rural Development Minister in June 2014. The film showcases his political journey from being a local BJP leader in Beed in Marathawada to emerging as the Other Backward Classes face of the party in Maharashtra, playing a key role with Pramod Mahajan in guiding the party in the State. TV artiste Sharad Kelkar will essay the role of Munde in the film directed by Sagar Raut.

Ms. Fadnavis has been taking lessons in classical and light music since childhood. She used to perform in social gatherings and fundraisers in her home town of Nagpur. She says she would like to pursue a career in playback singing. “Music is my passion and I would surely take any opportunity of singing which comes my way,” she told The Hindu at the Yashraj Studio in suburban Andheri, where the song was recorded.

After her husband was sworn in as Chief Minister last October, she refused to give up her job and sought transfer from Nagpur to Mumbai. Ms. Fadnavis has been learning classical music from Aniruddha Joshi. “She is a wonderful student. I admire her dedication towards music. She never misses her riyaz.
