Mumbai Central may be 1st station to get Google Wi-Fi
Mumbai: Mumbai Central may become the first station in the Indian Railways to have Google-powered Wi-Fi system. A total of four stations are likely to get this facility in Mumbai, including CST and LTT.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi, currently in the United States, had announced that Google has decided to tie up with Indian Railways to provide Wi-Fi facility at 500 stations across India.
Google has promised hi-speed service that can help stream HD videos. Authorities have said the services will be free of cost, but duration of this free-use period is still not clear. The services are to be offered with the help of Railtel.
A WR official said, “We plan to roll out the services by mid-November, coinciding with Diwali.”
He added, “Although the guidelines are not clear, my opinion is that the free limit can be restricted to 30 minutes, after which users may have to shell out some money.”
