Rains lash Mumbai; 5 cars cave-in as wall collapses in Wadala
Heavy rainfall lashed Mumbai and its suburbs throughout the night leading to a portion of a wall collapsing in Wadala.
The compound wall of a building called Lloyd Estate near Dosti acres collapsed around 4 am, leading to at least five cars being caved in. No casualty has been reported.
The building’s compound wall and internal road caved-in allegedly due to construction on the neighbouring plot. The BMC has evacuated one wing of the building for security concerns.
After showers on Sunday, heavy rainfall continued right up to Monday morning, inconveniencing commuters. Till 8:30 am, the Santacruz observatory of Indian Meterological Department recorded 231mm rainfall while Colaba recorded 99mm.
Many areas in the city reported waterlogging, including Sion’s road no. 24, King’s circle, and Pratiksha Nagar. Traffic had to be diverted here along with National College, Bandra, Siddharth Hospital Goregaon, Chembur Phatak, Milan Subway, Santacruz, Morarji Nagar and Filterpada in Powai.
The IMD has predicted continuous rain or thundershower with heavy to very heavy rainfall for Monday.
