Shakib handed one-match suspension
Shakib Al Hasan, the captain of the Rangpur Riders franchise in the Bangladesh Premier League (BPL), has been handed a one-match suspension and fined 20,000 Taka for breaching Bangladesh Cricket Board’s (BCB) code of conduct during the league encounter against Sylhet Super Stars on Thusday (November 26).
Shakib was found breaching levels one and two of the player’s code. He was first guilty of using abusive language after dismissing Sylhet batsman Dilshan Munaweera in the fourth over of their innings. Subsequently, he received the suspension for violating Level 2 Article 2.2.4 of the code for directing offensive and abusive language towards umpire Tanvir Ahmed in the 13th over of the innings after the official had turned down a vociferous appeal.
There was no need for a formal hearing as Shakib admitted to the offence and accepted the match referee’s sanction.
Shakib went on to pick the Man of the Match award for his all-round performance (33 and 3 for 31) as Rangpur consolidated their position at the top of the BPL table. His suspension will take effect during Friday’s encounter against Comilla Victorians.
