Shiv Sena to support Ram Nath Kovind in presidential election

The Shiv Sena on Tuesday said that it would offer its support to Ram Nath Kovind, the NDA’s pick for the presidential election, according to party chief Uddhav Thackeray.

While Mr. Kovind’s candidature took the Opposition by surprise, the Congress said it was not consulted before the announcement of the NDA’s presidential candidate.

BJP president Amit Shah had on Monday announced the NDA government’s pick for the presidential elections. “Ramnathji has always spoken for the deprived sections of society, and has had a long career in speaking out for Dalits and oppressed sections of society,” Mr. Shah said.
