Sonia Gandhi, Rahul get bail in National Herald case
In a massive relief for Congress president Sonia Gandhi and her son Rahul in the high-profile National Herald case, the Patiala House court in New Delhi on Saturday granted them unconditional bail on a personal bond of Rs 50,000 each.
While former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh filed the bail bond on behalf of Sonia, her daughter Priyanka Vadra did the same for brother Rahul. The heavily secure Patiala House court saw virtually the entire Congress leadership attending the proceedings in solidarity.
Meanwhile, complainant Subramanian Swamy clarified that he did not oppose the move for bail during Saturday’s proceeduings. “I did not oppose bail today, only opposed exemption. Thus the accused all produced bail for Rs. 50 000. No exemption. No bail boast?” he tweeted.
The court will next hear the case on February 20.
