Tamil Nadu CM congratulates PM on BJP victor
Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Edappadi K. Palaniswami congratulated Prime Minister Narendra Modi on BJP’s party’s victory in the Uttar Pradesh Assembly elections.
Speaking over telephone, he said, “The victory is the testimony to your able leadership and hard work.”
Reacting to results in five States, DMK’s working president and Leader of Opposition M.K. Stalin said, “The results in five States show that people of Tamil Nadu are also ready to vote against the ruling AIADMK government in the R.K. Nagar bypoll.”
VCK Chief Thol. Thirumavalavan attributed BJP’s victory to a split in opposition. Disagreeing that the result was people’s acceptance to demonetisation, he said, “Can we say people in Punjab did not welcome demonetisation but people in UP are welcoming it? In Uttar Pradesh, the feud between the father and the son in Samajwadi Party just before the elections and BSP’s decision to go at it alone led to BJP’s massive victory,” he said.
BJP’s Tamil Nadu unit president Tamilisai Soundararajan said the results of the Assembly elections in five States were a vindication of the Central government’s demonetisation move.
“This is the reward for the hard work of party president Amit Shah and the policies of Prime Minister Narendra Modi….People have rejected opposition parties. The PM took a decision not taken by anyone else when he announced demonetisation,” she said. Ms. Soundararajan said that Uttar Pradesh elections were are the best barometer to assess the mood of the country.
BJP’s Rajya Sabha member L. Ganesan compared the results with the light at the end of the tunnel.
“This is like the light that someone who lives in a cave sees. People were in a cave under the Congress,” he said.
