Two MLAs disqualified from Uttarakhand Assembly
Two MLAs – one from the Congress and the other from the BJP – were disqualified by Uttarakhand Assembly Speaker under anti-defection law, on Thursday, after they had cross-voted during the floor test conducted in the State Assembly on May 10.
The two legislators had cross-voted on May 10 during the floor test was held in the Uttarakhand Assembly. While BJP MLA from Ghansali, Bheem Lal Arya had voted for the Congress, Congress MLA from Someshawar, Rekha Arya had voted for the BJP.
A disqualification of nine “rebel” Congress MLAs in March had significantly reduced the strength of the Uttarakhand Assembly.
The two qualifications on Thursday have further brought down the Assembly strength to 60, including the Speaker Govind Singh Kunjwal.
Though Harish Rawat was reinstated as the Uttarakhand Chief Minister last month, the fallout of the political crisis that put the State under President’s Rule and led to the floor test, led to the disqualification of two more MLAs from the Uttarakhand Assembly.
