Two women found hanging in IIT-Madras

Two women – a research scholar and a professor’s wife, allegedly committed suicide separately in the Indian Institute of Technology-Madras on Wednesday.

Police sources said P. Maheswari (34), a married post-doctoral research scholar in chemistry from Puducherry, was found hanging in the Sabarmati hostel around 4 p.m.

In the other incident, G. Vijayalakshmi(47), wife of Ganesan, was found hanging in their flat, the sorces said.

Both the bodies were sent to the Government Royapettah hospital for post-mortem examination.

In a statement, the institution said the research scholar’s family was informed of the incident and that they were extending full cooperation to the authorities.
