BCCI announces revised dates for Ranji Trophy knockouts
The Board for Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) announced revised dates for the knockout stages of the Ranji Trophy on Friday (November 25). The revision was necessitated after the fifth round clashes between Gujarat and Bengal and Tripura and Hyderabad were postponed due to severe smog in Delhi.
No play was possible in the two fixtures after players complained of breathing problems and burning eyes. The Gujarat-Bengal match will now be played in Visakhapatnam while the Group C battle between Tripura and Hyderabad will be played in Kolkata from December 15.
All the quarterfinals will be played from December 24, while the semifinals will be played from January 3. The final of the tournament will be held from January 12 instead of January 7. The venues for the knockout contests haven’t been announced yet.
The rescheduling also pushes the Irani Cup dates a little back and the contest between the Ranji Trophy champions and Rest of India will be played from January 22.
