Mohammad Kaif appointed Gujarat Lions assistant coach
Mohammad Kaif has been appointed the assistant coach of the Gujarat Lions for the tenth edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL), it was confirmed on Thursday (February 16). Kaif will work with Brad Hodge, who is at the helm of affairs in the capacity of Head Coach since Lions’ debut season last year.
Kaif was appointed the captain of the Chhattisgarh side in this edition of the Ranji Trophy where he also played mentor to the young bunch along with coach Sulakshan Kulkarni. He has played in the IPL for Kings XI Punjab, Rajasthan Royals and Royal Challengers Bangalore, scoring a total of 259 in 29 games.
According to reports, Kaif was also in contention to be named the coach of Afghanistan but lost out to Lalchand Rajput. The former India batsman was in the final list along with Corey Collymore, Mohammad Yousuf and Herschelle Gibbs.
