Ross Taylor has been ruled out of the second Test of the three-match series against South Africa, New Zealand Cricket confirmed on Sunday (March 12). The hosts are yet to name a replacement.
Taylor suffered a low grade tear in his right calf while batting during New Zealand’s first innings at the University Oval in Dunedin on Day 2. He retired hurt on 8 and did not come out to bat for the rest of the day.
The veteran batsman underwent scans the following morning that revealed a ‘low grade’ tear. Taylor, however, was available to bat and resumed his innings at nine-down. He went on to make unbeaten 15 in New Zealand’s 341.
Taylor did not take field during South Africa’s second innings.
