Delhi doctor who treats poor for free
In small-village Kasna, in Greater Noida, where poverty is endemic and a trip to the emergency room can lead to financial ruin, an alternative exists for those in the know.
His name is Dr Anshuman Kumar – and, even if your pockets are empty, the cancer surgeon from Dharamshila Cancer Hospital and Research Centre, will not only help you with free medical advice but also with free generic medicines.
For the past several years, Kumar visits Kasna on every Thursday and treats patients free of cost and that too siting on a mat.
“One day a security guard in civil service colony apprised me about the poverty and lack of medical opportunities in the area. And they are forced to choose between work and doctor counsultation due to finacial condtion,” Kumar was quoted as saying by the Nav Bharat Times.
“I’ve always had a heart for the poor…I decided to take time from my schedule and work of them,” he said, adding, “I didn’t need degrees but dedication towards the cause and as such fixed Thursday for them.”
Reacalling a case, Kumar said, “A patient with reduced blood flow in legs once came to me. He was a working as a labourer at the nearby construction site. For him visiting a dictor meant loosing a day’s earning and also consultation fees. I just advised him to give up smoking and prescribed some generic medicines.”
“He is now doing fine,” he added.
