Sameer Dighe named Mumbai coach
Sameer Dighe, the former India wicketkeeper-batsman, was named Mumbai coach for the forthcoming domestic season, on Friday (June 2). Dighe will succeed Chandrakant Pandit, who piloted Mumbai to the Ranji Trophy title during the 2015-16 season and under his tenure, the Mumbai side also reached the final of the premier domestic competition last season.
The Dilip Vengsarkar-led Mumbai Cricket Association’s Cricket Improvement Committee (CIC) preferred Dighe over Pandit and former India batsman Pravin Amre. Last week, the MCA had also replaced Milind Rege with Ajit Agakar as the chairman of the selection panel.
Dighe made his first-class debut against Gujarat during the 1990-91 season and immediately made an impact with a hundred on debut. He finished the season with an impressive aggregate of 440 runs at an average of 73.33.
