Vice President election to be held on August 5

Election for the post of Vice President will be held on August 5, the Election Commission of India said on Thursday.

Chief Election Commissioner Nasim Zaidi said notification for the election would be issued on July 4 and nominations could be submitted by July 18.

The scrutiny would take place on July 19 and the last date for withdrawal of nomination is July 21. If polling is required, it would take place on August 5 and counting of votes would take place the same day.

Members of Parliament would use special pens for marking their choice and no whip could be issued by political parties, Mr. Zaidi said.
