COA chief Vinod Rai instructs BCCI to finalise coach today

In a dramatic twist since last night the Committee of Administrators (CoA) has asked the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) management to close out the selection process for Team India’s head coach today.

Earlier, on Monday, the three-member Cricket Advisory Committee (CAC) comprising Sachin Tendulkar and VVS Laxman besides Ganguly, had put the appointment of next India coach on hold despite completion of the interview process.

Ganguly had said CAC would want to speak with Kohli once he returned from USA and explain to him the way the coach aspirants wanted to work.

Ganguly said the CAC was in no rush to appoint the next coach and it was important for everyone to be in sync with what Indian cricket needed.

“We are in no rush to announce the head coach. We are not just looking at the Sri Lankan tour. At the end of the day, neither the BCCI secretary nor us are going to play. We are part of the system. We have to make sure everyone is on the same page,” Ganguly said.

“The crux of the matter: I was captain, Laxman was one of the best in the world. (We have to think of the) best way forward for the boys is important). Virat, who we respect a lot, is an important cog in the wheel. The announcement will be made after speaking to Virat.

“We want to talk to Virat and tell him that the coaches want to function in a certain way and make sure that everyone is on the same page,” he said.
