Five militants gunned down, IAF Garud commando killed in encounter in J&K’s Bandipora

Five militants and one Indian Airf Force garud personnel have been killed by the security forces in an ongoing operation in Bandipora’s Hajin, 30 km away from Srinagar, on Saturday.

An Army spokesman said the operation is on as more militants are believed to be trapped in the area. “Five militants have been killed,” said the army spokesman.

A police official said one soldier was also killed.

The gunfight between the militants and the security forces erupted on Saturday afternoon when a joint team of Army’s 13 RR, Special Operation Group and CRPF cordoned off Chandergeer area.

According to the police, the search part, came under fire, sparking an encounter.

Hajin has witnessed frequent encounters in recent past between the militants of Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) headed by Mehmood Bhai and security forces.

The identity of the militants could not be ascertained immediately.
