Jasprit Bumrah named in Test squad for South Africa
Jasprit Bumrah finds a place in the Indian team for the three-match Test series against South Africa starting in January. The National selectors on Monday announced a 17-member team, which included Parthiv Patel as the reserve wicketkeeper.
The selectors also picked the T20 team for the series against Sri Lanka and recognised consistency in domestic cricket by including Tamil Nadu all-rounder Washington Sundar, Kerala speedster Basil Thampi and Baroda’s hard-hitting batsman Deepak Hooda.
“We picked Bumrah because he adds variety to the attack. He has been in excellent form with the ball too. We felt he bowls the length that is needed when playing overseas. Parthiv had done well against England but had to make way for (Wriddhiman) Saha,” said National selection committee chairman M. S. K. Prasad.
Yuvraj Singh was discussed too but Prasad said, “He has cleared the fitness test but we want to see him match-fit. The more he plays good for him.
