Actor Arbaaz Khan summoned in IPL betting case
Actor-director Arbaaz Khan has been summoned by the Thane Police in connection with an international betting ring that was busted recently.
Khan is suspected to have placed huge bets over the Indian Premier League matches. The betting racket was being operated by India’s top bookies, Sonu Jalan alias Sonu Malad, from Mumbai.
Police arrested Jalan on Tuesday.
The summons that was sent to Khan’s Bandra residence demanded his presence for investigation.
The betting ring that was being operated from Dombivali was busted by Thane police’s anti-extortion cell on May 15. Four were arrested in the case.
Jalan, the betting ring leader, ran the software– Bet And Take– that was operational in national and international betting circuits.
He is also said to be associated with Dawood Ibrahim and is a close aide of another top international bookie running the racket
Jalan was last arrested in 2012 by the Mumbai Police for betting on the IPL match at that time. He had then during interrogation told Mumbai crime branch officials that he paid Rs 10 crore to a top Sri Lankan player to fix a match.
He was later out on bail. Jalan was also booked for money laundering in a case involving a senior IRS officer.
Jalan and the four others running the betting ring for current season of IPL were booked under sections 420, 468, 465, . 471 of IPC , several sections of Bombay Gambling Act, IT Act and Indian Telegraph Act.
Cops believe that some more names of Bollywood personalities could be involved as they had placed and participated in the betting ring run by Jalan.
