Wipro COO announces new structure

A day after Wipro appointed Bhanumurthy BM as its chief operating officer (COO), he has announced an organization structure with some changes to its leadership team within service lines. Hiral Chandrana has been appointed as vice-president and head of business application services (BAS), the largest service line that contributes 47% to its revenue. He was previously the VP and vertical head for consumer products (part of retail, consumer packaged goods, transportation and government (RCTG) business unit).

Kiran Desai has been appointed as vice-president & head of global infrastructure services (GIS). Desai succeeds GK Prasanna who has taken over as the president of a newly-created unit called marketing, innovations and technology (MIT). It will focus on non-linear growth engines, products and platform-based services, integrated solutions, research, and new technologies. In his previous role, Desai was the service delivery head for GIS. Both Chandrana and Desai will report to Bhanumurthy and these appointments are effective February 1, Wipro said in a statement.

Dallas-based Wipro CEO Abidali Neemuchwala, is credited for spearheading several initiatives collapsing multiple processes and creating a sharper delivery organization when he became the COO. Bhanumurthy is taking the agenda forward gearing the delivery organisation to drive higher productivity gain from the traditional services and look at supporting new business models as digital is reshaping the IT services landscape. “The COO organization aims to unify our service offerings and maximize value at the new frontiers of technology for our customers thus propelling mutual growth,” Bhanumurthy said in an email to employees.

Recently, Pallab Deb was appointed as the head of analytics. He replaces Jeffrey Heenan-Jalil, who has taken taken over as the global head – healthcare & lifesciences strategic business unit after Sangita Singh quit a few weeks back. However, Anita Ganti will continue as head of product engineering services, Nagendra Bandaru as head business process services, Kris Denton will continue to lead consulting services and Suresh Bala as head of application management services.
