Unfair to compare Kohli with Tendulkar: Sehwag

Former opener Virender Sehwag said that comparisons between legendary Sachin Tendulkar and reigning supertsar Virat Kohli is an unfair one.

When asked, Sehwag said, “Nobody should compare two cricketers. People have compared me with Tendulkar and Vivian Richards and that wasn’t fair as the era in which I played was different from Richards’ So I don’t think we should compare (Virat) Kohli with (Sachin) Tendulkar,” Sehwag said at a promotional event, in Mumbai on Wednesday.

While he said that he would speak more about it when an official announcement is made, Sehwag said that Day/Night Test match can work well in India.

“It is being said in the media but there is no clarity on this it will be better to speak when BCCI officially announces it but everyone wishes that they should be Day and Night Tests. We have seen in Australia and I would also wish that as a ex-cricketer, commentator and also as a fan of cricket, there should be Day-Night Tests in India,” said Sehwag.

There are biopics coming on Sachin Tendulkar, limited overs skipper Mahendra Singh Dhoni and former captain Mohammad Azharuddin.

Asked whether he would like to have a biopic on his life, Sehwag quipped, “Till now, no such offer has come.”

The Kings X1 Punjab mentor also expressed hope that his side which is at languishing at the bottom of the table in the Indian Premier League (IPL) will perform better in the remaining four matches.

“This season for the Kings XI Punjab has not been new, it is like the last year, we were at the bottom of the table last year and this year too we are at the bottom of the table,” the ’Nawab of Najafgarh’ said in his typical style.

“They were hopes, there were some close matches, had we won that, then we could have been slightly up on the table, but this is a process, we are going trough the process, so hopefully we can prepare a good team for the next year (in IPL) and perform well. This is my belief,” he said.

“Youngsters like Manan Vohra, Gurkeerat Mann, Axar Patel and Wriddhiman Saha (he is 31 years old) are talented players, I spend a lot of time with them and tried to motivate them, taught them some of my qualities and if they can benefit from it. We saw the result in one or two players, Wriddhiman had good score. Manan Vohra got a MoM award but we could not convert them into consistent performance, as a result of which we are at the bottom of the table,” the right-handed batsman said.

“Hope in the remaining four matches, we perform well and our foreigners (foreign players) who haven’t fired yet, be it (David) Miller (Glenn) Maxwell, Hashim Amla, if these three players play well, then they can win any match for us, if these foreigners play were, then it will be good for us,” he added.
