Ashish Nehra to undergo knee surgery in London

India’s veteran pacer Ashish Nehra was on Tuesday advised to undergo surgery on his right knee after he sustained a high-grade tendon injury during the ninth edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL).

Nehra, who plays for franchise Sunrisers Hyderabad, had sustained the injury during the match against Kings XI Punjab on May 15 which his team won by seven wickets.

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) recommended Nehra to consult Andrew Williams, orthopaedic specialist in London and the latter advised the pacer to undergo surgery on his right knee.

“BCCI medical team confirms that India medium pacer, Ashish Nehra, injured his right knee during the IPL 2016. Assessment and investigation by BCCI medical staff revealed Nehra sustained a high-grade tendon injury and was recommended to consult Dr Andrew Williams, orthopaedic specialist in London. Post consultation, Dr Williams has advised surgery on his right knee, which will take place shortly,” BCCI said in a release.

The 37-year-old has claimed nine wickets from eight matches with a best bowling figure of 3 for 15 in the league.
