Zimbabwe call up Chibhabha, Mufudza and Mutombodzi for T20I series
Zimbabwe have called up Chamunorwa Chibhabha, Tapiwa Mufudza and Tinotenda Mutombodzi into the 18-man Twenty20 International (T20I) squad that will take on India in a three-match series, starting on June 18 in Harare.
Zimbabwe had already announced the squad for the series against India on June 3. However, on Thursday (June 16), the selectors replaced Luke Jongwe, Tendai Chisoro and Sean Williams with the trio. It isn’t yet clear as to why the changes were made. However, Williams injured his finger before the start of second One-Day International (ODI) on June 13.
Chibhabha turned out to be Zimbabwe’s second highest run-getter in the just concluded three-match ODI series. Mufudza, the offspinner, has been in prime form in Zimbabwe’s domestic T20 competition this season, snaring eight wickets at an impressive average of 20 for Mountaineers. On the other hand, Mutombodzi, who bowls legspin, last played for the national team in 2013.
The hosts were thrashed 3-0 in the ODI series, and will look to give a better account of themselves in the shortest format of the game.
