Ravi Shastri resigns from ICC committee

Ravi Shastri has, on Friday (July 1), resigned from the International Cricket Council’s cricket committee, where he was a media representative for six years. Incumbent India coach Anil Kumble is the chairman of the ICC committee.

Shastri, who was a frontrunner for the post of head coach, was pipped by Anil Kumble. That, however, is believed to have had no bearing on his decision as he had reportedly discussed his plans of stepping down with Shashank Manohar, the ICC Chairman, much earlier stating the need of a new face having spent enough time himself.

“I have already submitted my resignation. There are personal commitments and I have been there for six years,” Shastri told PTI.

The official reason given was that Shastri will be busy with hi media commitments as commentator, TV expert and columnist, but there is intense speculation that the former all-rounder may have resigned as he is yet to come to terms with rejection that led to a widely publicised spat with Cricket Advisory Committee member Sourav Ganguly, reported PTI.

No official statement has been made by the ICC, however, with Shastri’s name still featuring in the cricket committee.
