Church attacked in Tumakuru
A church in Tumakuru city was attacked by a person yet to be identified in the wee hours of Thursday.
At around 4.10 a.m., a person who had covered his face stood outside the Tomlinson Church, near Sira Gate, and hurled a lit beer bottle filled with petrol. He later hurled two more beer bottles standing outside the locked gate, which is around 80 ft. from the church entrance, police sources told Media.
The church door caught fire. Honak, the church attendant, who lives near the church, rushed to the spot. Sources said he extinguished the fire with a water hose. “Had he not acted quickly, the carpet and all the wooden furniture inside the church would have been gutted”” they said.
Jayabhushan, church secretary, said that the entire incident has been recorded on CCTV. “The police have taken the CCTV recording for investigation. We believe that the attack is a deliberate act,” he said and added that the person who flung the beer bottles did not seem inebriated.
Senior police officials, including the Superintendent of Police, and the Deputy Commissioner visited the spot.
