Woman dies after school bus hits two-wheeler in Bangaluru
A 36-year-old woman was killed on Monday evening when a school bus hit the rear of the two-wheeler she was riding pillion on.
According to the police, the school bus, belonging to Greenwood High School on Sarjapur Road, was not fitted with a speed governor, as is mandatory for all vehicles that ferry schoolchildren.
The victim, identified as Meenakshi, was travelling with her husband when the bus hit their two-wheeler near Majina Farm in HSR Layout, the police said.
Meenakshi, a homemaker, and her husband, Chowdeshwara, were going from Bommasandra to Gunjur around 5 p.m. when the accident occurred. Both of them were admitted to a private hospital after the accident, but she succumbed. Chowdeshwara is being treated for a leg fracture.
“The school bus did not have a speed governor. Also, the victim was not wearing a helmet,” a police officer said.
The driver of the bus was arrested. It is not yet known if it was a case of rash driving. The police said the driver would be subjected to a medical test.
