TDP MPs grab Centre’s attention

Making a strong pitch for the implementation of the promises made to Andhra Pradesh, including grant of Special Category Status, the Telugu Desam Party members disrupted the proceedings in Parliament on Monday even as the Central government appears to have taken note of the seriousness of the situation.

Union Ministers M. Venkaiah Naidu and Y. Satyanarayana (Sujana) Chowdary, who held deliberations following the strong protests registered by the TDP MPs, briefed Union Finance Minister Arun Jaitley about the developments in the State following his reply to the debate on the status of implementation of the assurances given to A.P. in the Rajya Sabha the other day. Mr. Venkaiah Naidu reportedly met Prime Minister Narendra Modi later and briefed him about the developments in the past couple of days.

He is understood to have requested the Prime Minister to explore options to fulfil the promises made to the State to the maximum extent possible as also take steps to avoid the scope for differences with the alliance partner TDP. “Something is expected soon. There are confabulations at the highest level about the developments in A.P.,” a TDP MP told to PTI.
