Sehwag becomes MCC’s honorary life member

Virender Sehwag, former India batsman, has been awarded the honorary life membership of the Marylebone Cricket Club on Tuesday (August 16). The membership is extended by MCC Committee to acknowledge the contributions of players to the game.

There are over 18,000 full members and 300 honorary life time members. John Stephenson, the MCC head of cricket, was pleased while making the announcement. “It is always a pleasure to welcome new honorary life members to the club, and Virender is no exception,” he said. “He was a wonderfully entertaining player throughout his career and has also represented MCC with aplomb in the past, so is fully deserving of this honour.”

Sehwag established himself as one of the most explosive batsmen in the world and played 104 Tests, 251 One-Day Internationals and 19 Twenty20 Internationals, amassing a total of 16,892 runs across format at an average of 40.60.

He becomes the 23rd member to be awarded honorary life membership and joins the likes of Sachin Tendulkar, Sourav Ganguly, Rahul Dravid and Anil Kumble, with whom he played most of his cricket.
