Mumbai University ties up with US non-profit for affordable courses

The University of Mumbai (MU) has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with American India Foundation, a US-based non-profit organisation, to provide affordable skill education to economically deprived students.

According to the contract, the university will start three new courses — Store Operations Assistant, Software Testing and Paint Chemist — at its Garware Institute of Career Education and Development (GICED), which will be exclusively offered to these students.

The six-month courses, with an intake capacity of 40 students per course, will start in November.

While the Software Testing will be available to BSc IT graduates, the other two courses can be pursued after Class 12. The students will have to pay Rs2,000 to pursue per programme, while the foundation will foot the remaining cost of training.

The varsity plans to increase the capacity of these programmes in future.
