Actor Mahesh Babu to adopt village in Mahabubnagar
Telugu superstar Mahesh Babu, who had earlier announced to adopt Burripalem village, his father’s birth place, in Andhra Pradesh, has said he will also adopt a village in the Mahabubnagar District of Telangana.
In response to a suggestion made by Telangana Information Technology and Panchayati Raj Minister K.T. Rama Rao, appreciating Mahesh Babu’s recently released film “Srimanthudu”, the actor made this announcement on twitter on Wednesday.
“Very Humbled after receiving a congratulatory call on the success of Srimanthudu from Minister PR&RD @KTRTRS. He suggested I adopt a village from the most backward district of Mahabubnagar as part of their #GramaJyothi initiative. I said YES, more details to be announced soon..,” Mahesh Babu tweeted.
In the recently released action-drama “Srimanthudu”, the actor played the role of Harsha, who adopts a village to look after the welfare of people living in rural areas. Also starring Shruti Haasan, the film follows the life of a young billionaire who adopts a village.
Mahesh Babu had earlier announced to adopt his ancestral village Burripalem under Tenali rural mandal in Andhra Pradesh’s Guntur district.
The ‘Grama Jyothi’ programme aims to empower gram panchayats. The programme introduces a participatory approach in preparing village development plans involving the panchayats, self-help groups, people and all interested in the holistic development of the village.
