Adam Griffith, Graeme Hick join Australia’s coaching staff
Adam Griffith has been named Australia’s interim bowling coach, Cricket Australia announced on Friday (April 15). The 38-year-old will travel with the squad to West Indies for the triangular series involving the hosts and South Africa.
Griffith played 50 first-class games for Tasmania and took 169 wickets at an average of 34.31. The former pacer said he’s looking forward to the opportunity presented to him. “The opportunity to work with Australia’s premium bowlers is incredibly exciting,” he gushed. “The West Indies and South Africa have some of the most destructive white ball batters in the world and preparing to play them in Caribbean conditions will be a great challenge.

Griffith is going to take over from Craig McDermott, who stepped down from the position after the ICC World Twenty20 2016 in India. Darren Lehmann, the head coach, said he was looking forward to working with Griffith. “We are excited to have Adam join the team for the tour of the West Indies,” he said. West Australia have some talented young fast-bowlers that have developed under Adam’s watch and it’s great to be able to offer him the chance to work with the Australian side under Justin Langer.
“It’s a credit to the standard of our state coaching system to be able to offer these opportunities to young coaches and I am sure both Adam and the players will benefit greatly from this experience,” he added.
Australia will also have the services of Graeme Hick, the former England player, as the assistant coach.
